Home School Carnival

Our Co-Op had it's first Carnival last Friday.
The kids had the opportunity to participate in a science fair and talent show along with presenting demonstrations of things they have accomplished throughout the year.

We had lots of fun celebrating our kids and their unique abilities.

Niyah displayed some of her art work.

She also did  a science project on Chemistry in the kitchen.

We learned how different ingredients make chemical reactions when exposed to heat.
Then we baked 3 cakes. The first one we left out the baking soda. The second one we left out the eggs and the third one we baked according to the recipe. It was amazing to see and taste the difference that one ingredient makes.

Alex displayed some of his Lego creations.

He also did a presentation on the Great Wall of China.

Including a Lego version of the Great Wall.

We had a visit from local author Maureen Wright. She told us about her life as a children's book writer.

Niyah and Nater got to help participate in the demonstration of what happens when a book is published.
Niyah is counting her money and Nater thinks it's real.
Probably the most inspiring part of Maureen's story is how many times she had her stories rejected before finally getting published. These are the rejection letters she received. She only brought half of them.
Her conclusion....If you really want to do something, never, ever give up!
Keep trying!

Our local electric company came and gave a neat demonstration of electricity safety.
I may or may not have jumped out of my chair when the first display electrocuted the little figurine.

Niyah gave an art demonstration. Her picture of Garfield was then given away as one of the door prizes.

We finished the afternoon with sack races, popcorn and snow cones.
It was such a fun day!
