More Sled Dogs

Remember the Sled Dogs of Smokey Hill?
Well, we got the chance to visit them again... at their home!
Jagger happened to be staying with Mom and Dad, so he came along with them.
We got together with Dale and Mary this afternoon for lunch and a fabulous afternoon full of fun.

After lunch, the kids got to try their hand..errr...feet at snowshoes.

Once we had a nice trail packed down, out came the toboggan.

After sledding, we went to play with the dogs.
Oh my! What fun!

Lobo says "Nater, don't leave. I love you!"

This is Shyloh. He had been abused by his former owners before coming to Smokey Hill.
He is still so shy and skittish around people other than Dale and Mary.
Dale held him so that the kids could pet him.
It helps him realize that there are good people out there.

Who wants to pull the sled?
Bandit says "I do!"

Getting the harness on.

The snow ended up being too deep and drifted to have Bandit pull.
That's ok, we will try that again another time. It was still fun just hanging out with the dogs.

Cousins

We even got to watch at feeding time.
First we start with the dry dog food.

Then we add the raw meat.

Watching out the window as Dale feeds the dogs.

Dale showed us how to check a dog's core temperature to make sure they are warm enough.
If it gets super cold, the dogs go into the barn or in the house.

After warming up with some hot chocolate, it was time to go home.
Bandit was tired too.
After some fun and now a full tummy..he looks ready for a nap.

Thank you SO much Dale, Mary and all the dogs for giving us such a fun filled Sunday afternoon!
